Speaking to the AFP news agency, a rights activist has said that an eight-day hunger strike by jailed Bahraini activists has come to an end.

Mohammed al-Maskati, head of the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights (BYSHR), said "the strike was ended two days ago... It lasted eight days," in an interview on Wednesday.

Maskati said the inmates' families only discovered that the strike had been called off on Tuesday, when prisoners were allowed to phone their relatives.
