In this video, an Arab League observer in Deraa says he's seen snipers there.

We saw snipers in the town, we saw them with our own eyes. We're going to ask the government to remove them immediately. We'll be in touch with the Arab League back in Cairo. If the snipers are not gone in 24 hours, then there will be other measures taken. But everything has to be done in understanding and with organisation [...]

"You're telling me there are snipers? You don't have to tell me, I saw them with my own eyes."

Al Jazeera's Sue Turton, reporting live from the Libyan capital, Tripoli, said there has been "phonetic activity" inside Muammar Gaddafi's compound in Bab al-Aziziya.
"What we are hearing is that in the school in the compound ... that there have been snipers, we think, in those trees.
"That is what the rebel soldiers are telling us and they have sent as much artillery in there as they possibly can ... to try and take those snipers out," our correspondent said.

Al Jazeera's Evan Hill is at the Bab al-Aziziya compound and sent us this update:
"Explosions have been heard here and occasional gunfire. Rebels told me there are snipers about and that four people have been injured by gunshots."

Iranian snipers have been deployed in Syria, according to a man who claims to be  a former member of the regime's secret police. 

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph in Turkey, he says he defected after being ordered to shoot to kill.

He said he had beaten prisoners and fired on protesters in Damascus. At times during the past two months he was aware of Iranian troops – confirmed by senior officers – alongside his team in the Syrian capital.

"'We knew they were from Iran because we were not allowed to speak to them and they were kept well away from us,' he told The Daily Telegraph in Yayladagi, the nearest town to the refugee camp where he now lives."
