Omar Zakhilwal, the Afghan finance minister, will face an investigation into large deposits made into his bank account.
The deposits were then said to be transferred abroad.
Zakhilwal denied any wrongdoing following Thursday's announcement by the nation's anti-corruption chief.
Tolo TV, the nation's largest broadcaster, first aired the allegations along with what they said were copies of his bank statements.
Those statements were said to show over one million dollars had been deposited between 2007 and 2011.
"Before I came back to Afghanistan, I was a lecturer of economics in Canada and [as a consultant] I had good sources of income too because of $1,500 per day," Zakhilwal was quoted as saying by the private television station.
