Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, has assembled his national security team to discuss what the Kabul government has referred to as the recent inflitrations into Afghan National Security Forces.

According to a statement released by the presidential palace, the Wednesday morning meeting heard briefings by members of the defence and interior ministries to contain "malicious foreign infiltration" into the ranks of Afghan forces.

The meeting also saw officials discuss the rise in so-called "green-on-blue" insider attacks, in which Afghans in police or military uniforms attack foreign forces.

The talks in Kabul come days after Barack Obama, the US president, said he would discuss the insider attacks with his Afghan counterpart.

On Tuesday, a district police chief in southern Kanadahar province became the first official dismissed as a result of a "green-on-blue" attack.
