Pictures: 10 girls killed in Nangarhar province

At least 10 young girls between nine and 13 years of age, have been killed after an explosion in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, officials say.

The Monday morning explosion occurred in the Charparhar district.

The education department of the eastern province cited the names to a local journalist in Jalalabad, provincial capital as:

Khalia, Frestha, Fawzia, and Freshta, all in the fourth grade. Marzia and Marzia, both in the third grade. Salma in the first grade and Nazifa in the sixth grade.

The majority of the victims, six girls, were from three families.
