Bahrainis protest after activist's rearrest

Last modified: 7 Jun 2012 23:29

Anti-government protesters took to the streets of Bahrain on Thursday following the rearrest of a prominent rights activist.

Prosecutors ordered the rearrest of Nabeel Rajab for publishing a series of tweets after the verdict of Egypt's toppled president, Hosni Mubarak, was announced.

The tweets asked Bahraini Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman to step down and accused him of corruption.

A government statement said Rajab had insulted residents by suggesting they took to the streets in support of the veteran prime minister, an uncle of the king and in
his post since 1971, for financial gain.
