Allegations of election fraud
From Web producer Gregg Carlstrom:
Staffers from three of the losing presidential campaigns - Hamdeen Sabahi, Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, and Khaled Ali - are holding a press conference to discuss alleged violations during the first round of voting.
They described the first round of voting as "invalid," and repeated a claim which they made shortly after the election: that large numbers of military conscripts, who are prohibited by law from voting, were allowed to cast ballots for former prime minister Ahmed Shafiq. Their complaint was dismissed by the presidential election commission, which said they didn't present evidence to support it.
Many Egyptians, at least those who don't support Shafiq, believe there was fraud in the election, but so far nobody has been able to prove it.
The candidates themselves, meanwhile, are meeting today with Mohammed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood's presidential candidate, to discuss how they might unite ahead of the runoff election on June 16 and 17.
