A coalition of independent Egyptian judges announced on Wednesday that Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi had won the presidential election, according to their tally.

Egypt's election committee refuses to give the official results from the weekend's presidential run-off before Thursday. They have distanced themselves from the many unofficial figures that have been released, saying they are still looking into appeals against alleged violations.

But the judges said their own tally showed the Muslim Brotherhood candidate had gained about one million more votes than his competitor.

"Dr. Mohamed Morsy has received 13,238,335 votes, while Ahmed Shafik received 12,351,310 votes. This result includes the votes of Egyptians abroad, which were adopted by the higher election committee," said judge Walid Sharabiya.
