Sameh Fahmy , the former oil minister, has been given 15 years in jail. Businessman Hussein Salem tried in absentia, has also been given 15 years. Salem is in jail in Spain.

Fahmy stood trial trial alongside six other officials on charges of squandering public funds related to the sale of natural gas to Israel.
