Morsi, Shafiq to hold "indirect debate"

Last modified: 9 Jun 2012 18:47

There won't be a repeat of last month's first-ever presidential debate in Egypt, which saw Amr Moussa and Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh face off for a four-hour televised forum.

Ahmed Shafiq and Mohammed Morsi, the two candidates in this month's runoff, will not hold their own debate, according to the English-language version of Al-Masry Al-Youm. Instead they will have an "indirect debate" - simultaneous interviews broadcast on multiple channels on Tuesday night.

(Incidentally, Moussa and Aboul Fotouh both lost the election, and some analysts think the debates hurt their standing, perhaps explaining why Shafiq and Morsi are not having one...)
