Mubarak slipping in and out of consciousness, security officials say

Doctors used a defibrillator twice on ousted President Hosni Mubarak on Monday when they could not find a pulse, security officials have told the Associated Press. The officials said Mubarak, 84, was slipping in and out of consciousness and was being fed liquids intravenously. Mubarak also lost consciousness several times on Sunday and officials have said he is suffering from high blood pressure, depression and breathing difficulties.

Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison on June 2 for complicity in the killings of protesters during the first days of Egypt's revolution in January 2011. He was moved to a hospital in Cairo's Tora Prison, though he reportedly refused to leave the helicopter that took him there for seven hours until one of his sons convinced him to go. Mubarak's two sons Alaa and Gamal are reportedly by his side, and his wife Suzanne visited him on Sunday and demanded he be transferred to a civilian hospital, the officials said.
