Fifth battery of Iron Dome deployed early

Al Jazeera's Nadim Baba and Nisreen el-Shamayleh, reporting from Gaza City and Jerusalem, continue to tell Al Jazeera about the situation in Israel and the Gaza strip.

Our correspondent in Jerusalem says 80 rockets have been fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip. Of those, most were headed towards southern Israel and 20 of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile battery.

Tel Aviv has also proceeded to deploy the system's fifth battery early, said Al Jazeera's  el-Shamayleh.

Nadim Baba, reporting from Gaza, said he had just heard the latest round of Israeli strikes near Gaza City.

The blast, said our correspondent, was "the first one in a little while" to be clearly audible from his location in Gaza City.

The strikes however, "have actually been successful in carrying out the aims of the Israeli military", as several fighters have been killed so far, said Al Jazeera's Baba.
