Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith, reporting live from Kabul, says the publication of pictures from 2010 depicting US soldiers with the dismembered bodies of suicide bombers and Afghan police has not been front page news in Afghanistan itself.
"There is generally a sort of fatigue among the Afghans of seeing these kinds of pictures", says Smith.
Our correspondent did say however, that one official he spoke to said the pictures show "the indiscipline among the American ranks", something which Smith says is fast becoming "a widely held view" among Afghans on the ground.
A Taliban announcement vowing revenge for the photographs, says our correspondent, only adds to fear among intelligence officials that "the Taliban will use the publication of these photographs as yet another excuse" to launch further attacks in the country.
