Following a denial by the Taliban themselves, the Afghan government has dismissed claims of renewed talks between Taliban envoys and the United States.

Speaking at a press conference in Kabul on Sunday, Janan Mosazai, spokesperson for the ministry of foreign affairs, said the US would not negotiate with the Taliban without first "getting permission from the Afghan government".

"As we talked with US officials, all the reports are incorrect; the peace process will be led by Afghanistan," Mosazai said while addressing reporters on Sunday.
