Hundreds of Afghans, most of them clerics, have taken to the streets of Kabul to protest the Afghan-US strategic pact that would see US forces remaining in the Central Asian nation beyond the December 2014 date for the international troop withdrawal.

The AFP news agency reports that demonstrators shouted slogans against the United States and called for an end to the US military presence in Afghanistan.

The strategic pact was signed by Barack Obama, the US president and Hamid Karzai, president of Afghanistan, on May 1 in the Afghan capital.
