Kandahar - Apr 28, 2012 - 11:13
Armed men have entered the governor's compound in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar and started a shootout with police, officials say.
A security source from inside the governor's building told DPA news agency on Saturday that a couple of attackers entered the compound and were battling the police.
"They are throwing hand grenades and shooting bullets from a corridor next to the governor's office," he said, adding it was not clear how many assailants managed to get inside the compound.
Confirming the news, Sediq Sediqqi, interior ministry spokesman, said: "Some armed men are fighting the Afghan police inside the governor's compound."
