British border officials call off strike

British border officials have called off a 24-hour strike planned for Thursday, the day before the Games open. The Public and Commercial Services Union said it had reached an agreement with Home Office ministers over a dispute over jobs. The strike had threatened Olympic preparations, and would have included thousands of immigration workers at London’s Heathrow Airport, the main gateway to the Games
