Japan stun favourites Spain in opening round game

Last modified: 26 Jul 2012 18:59

And we have the first Olympic upset! Japan have stunned pre-tournament favourites Spain in men’s football. Yuji Otsu scored in the first half for Japan, tapping in past goalkeeper David de Gea at Hampden Park in Scotland. The Spanish under-23 team want to add Olympic gold to their World Cup and European Championships titles but this is a major blow to their chances. Spain were reduced to 10 men when centre-back Inigo Martinez was sent off for a foul.
