Andres Manual Lopez Obrador says his team will await the full results before making a position statement tweets Al Jazeera's Franc Contreras.
Mexico's federal elections institute's preliminary count says Enrique Pena Nieto has won the presidency.
The candidate for the old-ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, has won about 38 perc ent of the vote according a representative count of
the ballots.
Leftist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador won about 31 per cent. Ruling party conservative candidate Josefina Vazquez Mota won 25 per cent.
The victory paves the way for Mexico's PRI, which enjoyed seven decades of single-party rule, to return to power after being kicked out by voters 12
years ago.
