Mexico City, MEXICO : A supporter carries a caricature of Mexican presidential candidate for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Enrique Peña Nieto, at the end of the celebrations held at the party's headqurters in Mexico City after the first official results of the presidential election were announced, on July 1, 2012.

Enrique Peña Nieto, the new face of the party that governed Mexico for seven decades, won Sunday's presidential election, according to early polls by the independent Federal Electoral Institute (IFE). Peña Nieto had around 38 per cent of the vote against around 31 per cent for his nearest rival, leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador from the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), according to the early count.
