An improvised explosive device (IED) has killed two children in eastern Afghanistan, officials say.

The children, believed to be aged 12, were playing in the Surobi district of Paktika province when the IED explosion killed both children of unknown gender.

A statement from the provincial governor's office said another child was seriously injured in the blast.
