Heavy clashes reported along Damascus airport road

Last modified: 29 Nov 2012 17:09

Fighting between rebels and government troops has forced the closure of the main road leading to Damascus airport.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said clashes were particularly intense in Babbila, a southern suburb bordering the rebel stronghold of Tadamoun.

The administration of Damascus International Airport has reportedly cancelled all flights from and to Damascus, and transferred the flights to neighbouring capitals.

Update 14:25 GMT: All flights have not been cancelled. A flight from Cairo has landed as scheduled.
