Homs Revolutionary Council releases a statement on Syria talks in Geneva

Homs Revolutionary Council, an opposition activist network in the central city, has released a statement regarding the talks on the Syrian crisis at the UN headquarters in Geneva:

Any attempt by the international community to support a national unity government in Syria that does not meet the demands of the Syrian people is void.

We have seen how the implementation of the International Envoy Kofi Annan’ six-point plan has failed miserably. Since the establishment of the UN Supervision Mission in Syria more than two months ago, scores have been martyred, hundreds injured and many more detained.

We had emphasised during our meetings with the UN mission that proposing any political initiative in Syria could only be done under calm political and security situation.

We consider that proposing a political initiative amid the regime’s brutal military campaign on cities is merely an attempt to pressure the revolutionaries to divert from the goals of the revolution and to compromise in favor of the regime and its international supporters, especially Russia.

Therefore, we in the Homs Revolutionary Council emphasise that any initiative that does not begin with the stepping down of the regime’s leadership and criminals surrounding it is totally unacceptable. It would be a betrayal of the revolution’s principles and a betrayal of the martyrs’ blood to compromise this demand.

We urge the international community to assume its responsibility in ending the regime’s killing machine. We call on it to come out with a clear and serious stance that does not liken the victims with the perpetrators.

We also call on the international community to support the Syrian people in reaching their goals of getting rid of this regime and of establishing a society based on the principles of justice, freedom and equality.

The Syrian people have made up their minds. They will not retreat nor divert from the goals of the revolution.

We ask God to have mercy on the souls of our martyrs, heal the wounded and release the detainees.
