State media reports that an "armed terrorist group" has assassinated Doctor Adnan Tawfik al-Samitt in the city of Deraa.

SANA news agency said the physician had been shot dead near his house in al-Qusour neighbourhood.

Elsewhere in the province, SANA said Lieutenant Colonel Said Assi had been killed in an ambush in al-Mismiyeh village.

Meanwhile, a colonel and a warrant Officer were killed in Hama, according to SANA.
