The Local Co-ordination Committees activist network said at least 18 people were killed in the central city of Homs when government forces shelled two buildings the neighbourhood of Bab Tadmor.

Speaking to Al Jazeera from Homs, Hadi al-Abdallah said: "The buildings were six-story buildings. Many families remain missing. It is hard to confirm the exact number of those killed."

He added that there is an escalation of violence on the part of security forces, especially in Homs' old neighbourhoods.

"[Head of Arab League Mission in Syria] Al- Dabi's report speaking of armed groups gave the regime more justification to intensify the killing."

Below is a video that purports to show the rubble from the buildings' collapse in Bab Tadmor.
