Authorities are dismantling the Occupy Toronto camp to jeers from protesters but in an operation that has seen no major confrontations.

Police began surrounding St James Park in downtown Toronto just after 5:30am on Wednesday to begin the operation to clear out tents and other structures in place since October 15.

City bylaw officers have gone from tent to tent asking anyone inside to vacate before removing the shelters.

The action came after a shrinking number of activists waited two nights for authorities to enforce a court order that the camp be taken down.

A Toronto judge upheld a city eviction order on Monday saying the protesters were trespassing.  [AP]
